Elizaveta Shahkhatuni (1911–2011) was a pioneering Armenian-Soviet aerospace engineer and one of the first women in the USSR to lead major aircraft design projects. Born in Yerevan, she studied engineering at the Moscow Aviation Institute and began her career in the 1930s, a time when few women were in science or aviation. Shahkhatuni worked closely with legendary aircraft designer Oleg Antonov and played a key role in developing iconic Soviet planes such as the An-2, An-8, and An-10. Her expertise in strength analysis and aircraft durability earned her top scientific and state honors, including the prestigious Lenin Prize. In addition to her engineering career, she was a professor and mentor to a generation of aviation specialists. Elizaveta Shahkhatuni's legacy is one of innovation, resilience, and a lifelong commitment to advancing aerospace technology in a male-dominated field
