La 12ème edtition du festival international du film, Golden Apricot, va bientôt ouvrir ses portes ce 12 juillet et c'est avec beaucoup de fierté que cette nouvelle édition aura pour président du jury, Robert Guédiguian.

Nous avions eu l'honneur d'interviewer Robert Guédiguian lors du dernier festival de Cannes où il nous avait fait part de cette exclusivité. nous nous étions alors donner rendez-vous pour le Festival du Cinéma Arménien et nous aurons le plaisir de le retrouver à cette occasion !

Golden Apricot

Robert Guédiguian, French film director, actor, screenwriter and producer will be the head of jury of GOLDEN APRICOT Yerevan International Film Festival.

Guédiguian has been working for about 35 years in the film industry and is one of the best French filmmakers of his generation. He has over two dozen films in the genres of comedy, drama, history, etc. All of his films glow with the directors deep psychological world and humanity towards his characters. French Filmmakers call him “Marseille's working-class singer”.

Robert Guédiguian was born in 1953 in Marseille to a family with a German mother and an Armenian father. He still lives in Marseille, where he films most of his work. He studied social studies in the University of Paris. Guédiguian started working for the film industry since 1980. He is mostly famous for his social films, but he became famous worldwide in 1996 after his hit comedy Marius et Jeannette. The film has recieved a prize in Un Certain Regard at Cannes, as well as the Louis Delluc Prize and Lumières Award. The film also won the Grand Prix in Geneva IFF (Switzerland), Figueira da Foz IFF (Portugal) and Haifa IFF.

Guédiguian’s films are always included in competition programs at Cannes, Berlin, San Sebastian and other European film festivals.

In 2001, at the European film academy awards Guédiguian was awarded International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) award for his film “The Town Is Quiet”.

Awards have been given to not only the director, but also his actors. “Marius et Jeannett’s” actress Ariane Ascaride, who is also Guédiguian’s wife, won Best Actress César Award, most prestigious award in the French film world, for her role in Marius et Jeannette. The same award has also won Michel Bouquet for his work in Guédiguian’s “The Last Mitterrand”.

Guédiguian has spoken about the Armenian issues in many of his films. This year his Don't Tell Me the Boy Was Mad was selected to be screened in the Special Screenings section at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. The film presented the theme of the Armenian Genocide on this most important of platforms in the world of modern cinema. In 2006 Guédiguian’s Trip to Armenia” won “Silver Apricot” award at GOLDEN APRICOT.

Guédiguian’s  Don't Tell Me the Boy Was Mad is to open GOLDEN APRICOT 12th Yerevan International Film Festival.
