Our new page is dedicated to the Yerganian family, originally from Akhisar (80 kilometers south-east of Izmir). The family history presented here, as well as the accompanying photographs and other materials, were provided to us by Ricardo Yerganian.

This collection is particularly rich in photographs, which document the odyssey of the members of the Yerganian family who survived the Armenian Genocide and found refuge in Athens in the 1920s. In the Greek capital, the Yerganians lived in the refugee camp of the Dourgoúti (Fiks) neighborhood, a unique locale featured in many of the photographs. After the Second World War, the family once again migrated, this time to Argentina, where a few of the photographs were taken.

Our gratitude to Ricardo, who diligently read, re-read, and edited our short article dedicated to the history of his family.

This page was prepared in cooperation with the Athens Armenika periodical and the Hamazkayin Union.

Best wishes,
Houshamadyan Editorial Board
